East Side Pod Camping FAQs
Area 21 is referred to as our East Side Pod Camping. We refer to a “Pod” as a group of self-sufficient trailers camping overnight on the gravel/sand. The East Side Pod area is located on the east side of the reservoir, just northeast of the Sandpit Campground and at the end of Sand Hollow Road. This area is a mix of gravel and hard pack dirt. Its location is great for people looking a nice spot near the lake but a little further from the main event area.
Each Pod camping pass is $200.
Each Beach Pod camping pass is good for six days and five nights starting at 12pm MT on Tuesday, October 17th through 12pm MT on Sunday, October 22nd.
Camping passes can be pre-purchased through our website by using the link on this page. If East Side Pod camping passes do not sell out before the event begins, passes can be purchased at the entry gate when you arrive.
No. East Side Camping passes and wristbands are sold separately. We did this to keep the cost as cheap as possible and wanted to make sure each participant only had to purchase what they needed.
You can pre-purchase wristbands through the website up to the week of the event, or purchase them at the gate for $50 each. We recommend purchasing them through the website to help reduce wait times at the gate.
Yes! Please be aware everybody in your vehicle will need wristbands to get through the entry gate to access your campsite. Wristbands are $50 per person through the website or at the gate. Kids 12 and under are free.
The UTV Takeover activities start at noon MT on Wednesday but you can check in starting 12pm MT on Tuesday, October 17th. Unlike previous years there is NO additional charge to set up camp on Tuesday!
All participants are asked to clean their sites and check out by 12pm MT on Sunday, October 22nd.
Yes, each vehicle will need a vehicle pass. Each Pod camping pass comes with one vehicle pass. Each additional vehicle is considered a new camper and will need a camping pass and can be obtained by purchasing an East Pod Sand Camping pass at $225 each. We have a land-use agreement with the State Park that only allows a certain number of vehicles in the event area at any given time. We monitor the number of vehicles by limiting the number of passes we sell. Vehicle passes will be checked at the gate before entering the event area.
There are NO dozers in the pod area. The pod area’s access trail is fairly well packed and should be effortless to enter. Once on the beach, the sand may begin to soften and require more thought to traverse. Please do your research before the event and be prepared to access the sand without the use of a dozer. We recommend airing down the tires on the truck and trailer, bringing a shovel and a tow strap. If you get into trouble and get stuck make sure to let off the gas and ask for help. If you sink to your vehicle’s frame it will make it difficult to move even with the help of another vehicle and a tow strap (hence the shovel).
Area 21 can be accessed from Sand Hollow Road. There are NO dozers in the pod area. There are three main entrances to the East Side Pod; all of which are gravel. The main pod area is mostly gravel with a mix of hard pack dirt and is easy for any style camper to drive on.
No. These are dry camping sites located on the beach. You will need to supply your water. We recommend filling your tanks in Hurricane or at the Westside Campground located in the park. The Westside Campground has four dump stations and a water filling station that can be used before accessing the event area. Gray/Blackwater is not permitted to be dumped on-site. If you need your tanks dumped during the event we will have a septic service company you can call for a small fee or you can head over to the Westside Campground location just 1/2 mile away.
Campfires are ONLY allowed in the state park IF they are in propane pits, elevated and self contained pits, or state park supplied steel rings. A rock ring is NOT allowed, even if you find a previously used rock ring! We asked participants not to throw cans and garbage in the campfires. NO GLASS is allowed on the beach! Any unused firewood remaining at the end of the event must be taken with you when you leave. Please help us leave Sand Hollow better than we found it!
Area 21 will have access to 20-yard dumpsters located throughout the area during the event. These dumpsters will act as a disposal site for any participants camping on the beach while also providing additional capacity for the state park.
Area 21 will have access to portable restrooms located throughout the area during the event. Campers are required to be self-contained similar to any other weekend. Showers are NOT available in Area 21.
Areas 21 will NOT have a Campground Host; however, this area will be monitored throughout the day by our UTV Takeover security team with assistance from the local Parks Service and Sheriff.
Yes. Contact Sand Hollow State Park for the permit. 5-day permits ($15/ea) are required to fly drones within the state park. Violators are subject to citation.
